HangupsMusic.com – In a dramatic turn of events unfolding in a Los Angeles courtroom, Kavon Grant, known in hip-hop circles as OTF Vonnie, has taken the witness stand, delivering a series of potentially damning testimonies against his former associate, rapper Lil Durk. Grant’s testimony, spanning two days, centers on his alleged involvement in a murder-for-hire plot targeting rival artist Quando Rondo, with Durk himself implicated as the architect. Grant’s cooperation with prosecutors comes as part of a plea deal, aiming for a reduced sentence in exchange for his testimony.
On Monday, August 31st, Grant entered the courtroom, where he detailed his alleged role in facilitating the violent incident. Prosecutors contend that Grant was instrumental in arranging the logistical aspects of the 2022 shooting. Conversely, Durk’s defense team has vehemently argued that their client is being unfairly scapegoated, suggesting Grant is attempting to minimize his own culpability by implicating the prominent rapper.
Reporting from the trial, journalist Michael Blackshire and YouTuber Trap Lore Ross have provided live updates, confirming that Grant identified Quando Rondo as the intended victim. Grant also reportedly named Deandre "DeDe" Wilson and David Brian "Browneyez" Lindsey as co-conspirators in the alleged plot.
Grant presented himself as a former assistant to Lil Durk, whose responsibilities extended beyond administrative duties to include involvement in illicit activities, notably the brokering of stolen luxury vehicles. He further disclosed an earlier attempt in 2021 to target Rondo in Georgia, an operation he claimed involved himself, an artist named Muwop, and two other unidentified individuals.
The focus of the trial, however, remains on the 2022 shooting incident, which tragically resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a "Lul Pab" Robinson, instead of Rondo himself. According to Ross’s account, Grant testified that Durk had instructed the group to book flights to San Diego rather than Los Angeles, where Rondo was reportedly located at the time, as a measure to evade law enforcement detection. Grant also revealed that Durk was already incensed by a clip from a Wack 100 interview where artist 6ix9ine allegedly provoked him by telling him to "slide for Von." The viral spread of this clip, Grant suggested, exacerbated Durk’s anger and intensified the pressure to retaliate.
Journalist Michael Blackshire shared details of a text message from Durk to an OTF group chat that was read into evidence. The message stated, "If the shoe was on the other foot it would be no pressed. Im’a be hard on y’all cause I love y’all. Von is me, Von is y’all." Grant was reportedly not a member of this particular chat.
Another text message, reportedly referencing artists YB (YoungBoy Never Broke Again) and Offset, was also presented. In it, Durk allegedly wrote, "Let it be YB and nem. Shorty be out every night. We got the lo on a MF and guess he at club like he ain’t got be worried about. Set said Chicago only, but in the A, they think we sweet."
During his cross-examination, Durk’s attorney, Drew Findling, launched a vigorous challenge to Grant’s credibility. Findling characterized Grant as a habitual con artist, highlighting his seemingly affluent lifestyle following his dismissal by Durk in January 2023. Furthermore, Findling presented a jailhouse call recording in which Grant purportedly expressed his intention to perform at his "A game" during his testimony, motivated by a desire to return home and avoid a life sentence. Grant also admitted to lying to Durk about the disposal of the stolen vehicle used in the shooting, claiming that instead of burning it as instructed, he illegally parked it, leading to its eventual towing.
"I thought burning it was stupid honestly," Grant reportedly told the court, as relayed by Ross.
Grant further recounted his post-shooting anxieties, describing the group’s actions as "sloppy" and remarking to Durk, "We just did a hit in Beverly Hills. That’s not normal."
He testified that he and Durk had watched footage of Quando Rondo exclaiming "No!" in the aftermath of the shooting. Grant stated that Durk appeared visibly pleased and exhilarated, reportedly exclaiming, "Finally we got somebody."
As the investigation into the shooting progressed, Grant detailed how a rental car company informed him that detectives were seeking the white BMW involved in the murder. When he relayed this information to Durk, Grant claimed the rapper dismissed his concerns, advising him, "You’re overthinking it. They’re just doing their job."
Ultimately, Grant stated that he began to distance himself from Durk, relocating back to Atlanta and ceasing his travels to Los Angeles. This estrangement, he testified, was the catalyst for Durk terminating his employment. The unfolding testimonies promise to be a pivotal element in the ongoing murder-for-hire trial.
