The jury at the Clark County Courthouse deliberated for a swift 90 minutes before returning their unanimous decision. Presiding Judge Carli Kierny announced the guilty verdict, stating that Davis was convicted of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, specifically citing the intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang in the commission of the crime. The gravity of the ruling was palpable in the courtroom, where members of Tupac Shakur’s family were present. Sekyiwa "Set" Shakur, the late rapper’s sister, was visibly moved, weeping quietly as the verdict was read. The defense had initially challenged the admissibility of the book, arguing that its contents were fictionalized for commercial gain and questioning the extent of Davis’s direct authorship, given it was a co-authored work. Keefe D himself had previously claimed ignorance of the book’s specific contents, stating he had not read it and that the co-author had taken creative liberties with his story. Ultimately, Judge Kierny ruled that the statements within the book could be used as evidence, finding that Davis had effectively adopted the material as his own, particularly through his repeated characterization of the book as containing the "real truth."
